Cerro Punta is a very small town, with less than 10,000 inhabitants, I have visited this town for over 20 years now.
It has almost not changed. It is one of those places that can take you back to an earlier point in your life, when things were simpler.
Dont let it fool you, despite being so small (the town itself), there are many things to do here. keep in mind this is the town where 99.0% of all veggies in Panama are shipped from.
Agriculture is the main economic activity here. And of course, horses.
It was November 11th, 1921 when a couple explorers discovered Cerro Punta. Things have changed ever since.
Cerro Punta is a small valley formed by a mountain chain that comes from Costa Rica to Panama, known as Talamanca, that is part of the La Amistad International Park (Biological Heritage of Humanity, declared by UNESCO) and the BarĂº volcano.
Haras Cerro Punta was founded back in 1977, now it employs over 300 locals, is THE place to visit if you are in Cerro Punta for a short stay. During your visit you will see beautiful horses, learn about their history, have a picnic if that is something you enjoy, and overall, have a great family day, which is what at the end we hope you have.
